A Public Affairs commentator, Muhammed-Bello Buhari, has said that the emergence of Bola Tinubu will affect the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections.

Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State won the APC Presidential primary election by a landslide on Wednesday with seven aspirants stepping down for him.

He polled 1,271 votes to beat the likes of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who polled 235 votes, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who scored 316 votes, and Senate President Ahmed Lawan who polled 152 votes.

In a post on his Facebook page on Saturday, Buhari said that most northerners see Tinubu as a Southerner before his religious faith.

He said the majority of the masses in the North do not care whether Tinubu is a Muslim or Christian, stressing that what they see is simply a Southern candidate.

The public commentator stated that most northerners are indifferent about the prospect of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Buhari, however, asserted that the Northern’s disposition is not due to intolerance or hatred.

He said: “There’s this stereotype northern Muslims have for southern Muslims.

“What my Christian brothers and sisters failed to understand is the fact that the majority of the masses here in the North do not care whether Tinubu is a Muslim or Christian, what they see is simply a Southern candidate.

“There’s this stereotype northern Muslims have for southern Muslims, it’s this same consideration that’s making the most northerners to be indifferent about the prospect of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“But it’s never about intolerance or hatred or any lack of sense of brotherhood.”
