2023: Buhari Had A Preferred Candidate But Didn’t Influence The Outcome Of APC Primaries – Presidency

The presidency has declared that despite having a preferred candidate in the build-up to the presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari didn’t impose his wish on the leaders and members of the party.
The special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina made this known in an opinion statement released on Thursday night titled ‘Knock, Knock! Who’s There?’.

According to him, as a true democrat, President Buhari decided to remain neutral in the entire process despite having a series of meeting with party leaders and stakeholders on how to ensure the APC produces the best candidate for the 2023 elections.

Naija News recalls the APC primaries which was concluded on Wednesday, 8th June produced former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu as the party’s flagbearer.

Speaking further, Adesina pointed out that with the emergence of the presidential candidates from all interested and eligible political parties, it is left for Nigerians to decide who will be their next leader come 2023.

Reports have emerged claiming various caucuses of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have commenced an intense push to produce the running mate for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It was gathered that eight names have been penciled down as possible running mate for the former Lagos State governor but northern political clout and the fear of a Muslim-Muslim ticket is currently leaving APC leaders in a dilemma.

The eight names that have so far emerged included Governors Babagana Zulum (Borno), Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna), Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano) and Samuel Lalong (Plateau); former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima (who led Tinubu campaign organization); former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.

Top critic of the APC and Bishop of the Catholic Diocese in Sokoto, Matthew Hassan Kukah has surprisingly emerged among those being considered.

2023: Tinubu Speaks On His Preferred Running Mate

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said his preferred running mate will be announced soon.

Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos, stated that the choice of his running mate is his right and would keep the name of the candidate in his “pocketbook”.

The APC Presidential candidate said this on Thursday while speaking to State House Correspondents after visiting President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.

Tinubu was accompanied on the visit by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and the Chief Executive Officer of Oando Plc, Wale Tinubu.

Akpabio Wins APC Senate Ticket After Stepping Down For Tinubu

The former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio has won the senatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress for the Akwa Ibom North-West constituency.
Recall that the former Minister of Niger Delta stepped down for the National Leader of the ruling party, Bola Tinubu in the just concluded presidential primary of the party.

Akpabio clinched the senatorial ticket after gathering 478 votes.

512 delegates were accredited for the primary, of which Joseph Akpan had one vote, DIG Ekpo Udom who initially won the first primary had three votes, while 11 votes were voided.

Akpabio while speaking at the Godswill Akpabio Empowerment Centre in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, where the primary was held appreciated the people for supporting him.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose and his younger brother, Isaac tackled each other after an attack on the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.

Isaac Fayose in a Facebook post said he would not be voting for Atiku because Northerners are only interested in rearing their cattle rather than running an administration.

Isaac Fayose advised Nigerians against supporting politicians who had oppressed the masses while in power and lie about wanting to unify the country.

Reacting, Fayose in a post on Twitter said such comments about Atiku are sad and undeserving.

Ayodele Fayose further disassociated himself from the comment, stating that his brother is on his own m, urging the public to ignore him.

Abacha’s Former Aide, Al-Mustapha Wins AA Presidential Ticket

The 2023 presidential primary election of the Action Alliance (AA) held in Abuja yesterday, ended in favour of former Nigerian Army major and intelligence officer, Hamza Al-Mustapha.

Naija News reports that Al-Mustapha who served as Chief Security Officer to late General Sani Abacha won the highest votes at the AA presidential primaries to defeat his closest and only contender, Samson Odupitan.

He garnered 506 votes to emerge as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Reacting to his victory at the primary, Al-Mustapha thanked the party’s electoral committee for the successful conduct of the smooth exercise.

2023 Presidency: It’s Not A New Thing, We Will Deliver Adamawa For Tinubu – Babachir Lawal Boasts

A former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal has boasted that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu will win the 2023 election.

He stated that Tinubu will defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar even in his home state of Adamawa.

Lawal submitted that Tinubu is a good man and wouldn’t have any difficulty winning votes in any part of Nigeria because he has helped so many people in different parts of the country.

He added that they know every nook and cranny of Adamawa State and have all the material and intellectual resources needed to not only defeat Atiku in Adamawa but ensure total victory for Tinubu across the country.

2023 Presidency: Shehu Sani Speaks On Muslim-Muslim Ticket, Issues Strong Warning

Former Kaduna Central lawmaker and activist, Senator Shehu Sani has cautioned against the adoption of a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election.

He opined that in a multi-religious setting like Nigeria, having the President and Vice President from the same religion is a recipe for disaster.

Sani spoke against the backdrop of the latest political developments in the country as attention shifts to who presidential candidates that have emerged across political parties will choose as their running mates.

Adding his voice to the debate, Sani in a Twitter post on Friday morning said a Muslim-Muslim ticket should be avoided because of the religious plurality of Nigeria.

2023: APC Presidential Candidate, Tinubu Visits Umahi

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu on Thursday visited the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi.

The visit of the former Governor of Lagos State is coming after he visited Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja.

Tinubu’s visit to Ebonyi State Governor is part of his move to reconcile all presidential aspirants who lost to him in the just concluded presidential primary of the ruling party.

The APC presidential candidate held a closed-door meeting with Umahi at his Abuja residence.

‘Irrespective Of All That Happened, You’re Still My President’ – Rashida Bello Praises Husband After Losing Presidential Ticket

The wife of the Kogi State Governor Rashida Bello has showered praises on her husband Yahaya Bello after an underwhelming outing at the All Progressive Congress Presidential primary.

Naija News recalls on Wednesday, 8th June, former Lagos governor Bola Tinubu, won the APC primary after he polled 1,271 votes to defeat 13 other presidential aspirants.

Former minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, came second with 316 votes, while Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo got 235 votes.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan polled 152 votes while Bello, governor of Kogi, got 47 votes.

Taking to Instagram, Rashida Bello described her husband as her superhuman stating he ran a good race to the finish.

According to Rashida Bello, irrespective of the outcome of the presidential election, her husband is still her president.
