2023: Winners, Losers Of APC Presidential Primaries

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday concluded its presidential primaries at the Eagles Squad in Abuja.

Recall that the former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, defeated 13 other presidential hopefuls to emerge as the presidential candidate of the ruling party.

Tinubu polled 1,271 votes to beat the likes of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who polled 235 votes, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who scored 316 votes, and Senate President Ahmed Lawan who polled 152 votes.

In this article, Naija News would be looking at the winners and losers of the APC Presidential primary election.

Winners

The major winner of the election is Tinubu, his wife, his family and his political empire. The former Lagos state governor won the hotly contested ticket after weeks of high-wire intrigues and horse-trading.

Other winners include President Muhammadu Buhari; the APC; the presidential aspirants who stepped down for Tinubu at the venue of the elections.

The seven aspirants who stepped down are Dr Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, Dimeji Bankole, Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, Uju Ohanenye and Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Other winners include those agitated for a power shift to the South such as Southern governors and 14 APC Northern governors, and members of the party’s National Working Committee, who fought against attempts to produce a consensus candidate.

Losers

The losers of the election are the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Senate President Ahmed Lawan; Senator Rochas Okorocha; Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi and Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.

Others are immediate past Minister of Science and Technology;  Ogbonnaya Onu; former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Tein Jack-Rich and the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Adamu is regarded as one of the losers of the APC presidential primaries for trying to impose Lawan as a consensus candidate on the NWC.
