A former Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo has revealed that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, wanted him to join the ruling party in 2014.

Dokubo stated that loyalty to former President Goodluck Jonathan and the South-South region prevented him from joining the party before the 2015 general elections.

Naija News reports that the former militant made this known on a Facebook Live on Wednesday evening.

He stated that the Minister for Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, tried to convince him to join the ruling APC and abandon Jonathan during a meeting in Mecca, Saudi Arabia in 2013.

The former militant revealed that he had to cut off his friendship with Tinubu because of Goodluck in 2014.

He also disclosed that he had cut ties with Aregbesola, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and President Muhammadu Buhari.

Dokubo, however, said that he sacrificed those relationships for his people and has no regret for his actions.

He said: “I cut off communication with Tinubu because of Goodluck in 2014.

“I was in Mecca for Hajj, with the present Minister for Interior, Rauf Aregbesola. I went to his hotel room to see him, that was in 2013, and he said ‘why are you following Goodluck’?

“He said Goodluck will not do you anything good. He said, ‘why don’t you stay where you are celebrated?’ All of us celebrate you. And I told him I cannot betray my people. I stood by Goodluck, and cut off friendship with Rauf Aregbesola, Adams Oshiomhole, Kayode Fayemi, Tinubu himself, and even President Buhari.”
