Former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu on Wednesday emerged as the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The APC national leader defeated 13 other presidential hopefuls at the APC primary election held at the Eagle Square to clinch the party’s ticket.

Tinubu polled 1,271 votes to beat the likes of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who polled 235 votes, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who scored 316 votes, and Senate President Ahmed Lawan who polled 152 votes.

However, following Tinubu’s emergence as the flagbearer of the APC in the 2023 general elections, the race to pick his running mate has started.

It was learned that Tinubu will meet APC governors and the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, before the end of the week over issues relating to his running mate.

Naija News reports that the meeting is set to take place to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission’s June 17 deadline for the submission of political party’s candidates and running mates.

It is likely that Tinubu would choose his running mate from the North and the issue of religion will a key factor in the political decision.

Ironically, Tinubu, a Muslim southerner, is surrounded majorly by more Muslim northerners than their Christian brothers. In other words, the APC ticket appears to lean more toward a Muslim-Muslim pairing than a Muslim-Christian blend. Yet, none of the options is cast in stone, as it were.

Thus, given the importance of this choice and how it could impact the 2023 general election, what are the options before the APC? There are many of them, but a few readily come to mind.

Below are the contenders for Tinubu’s running mate as opined by Naija News.
