Pastor Tunde Bakare

2023 Presidential aspirant, Pastor Tunde Bakare on Wednesday, lost his bid to become Nigeria’s next president after President Muhammadu Buhari.

Naija News reports that the All Progressives Congress, APC, under which the General Overseer of The Citadel Global Community Church contested the 2023 presidential race, commenced its national convention on Monday, June 6.

The exercise which lasted through to Wednesday, June 8, saw the party’s national leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu clinching the 2023 presidential ticket of the APC to battle oppositions in the general elections.

Pastor Bakare who, however, has spoken severally of his competency and qualification to lead the nation, garnered zero votes during the process.

This is coming hours after the presidential hopeful had declared he is not stepping down for anyone in the race. Pastor Bakare said he is only stepping up as the 16th president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Naija News recalls, however, that Pastor Bakare had said in a statement dated May 5, 2022, after purchasing APC’s Presidential nomination and expression of interest forms, that he will show full support to his fellow aspirant if he fails to secure the party’s presidential ticket at the convention.

Bakare had expressed his belief in the will of God at the primaries and subsequently the 2023 general election approaches.

He said: “I trust God helping us with men of goodwill, East, West, North, and South from the country across party lines, male and female who will rise up and rebuild our nation in such a way that the devastation we are experiencing we would see it again no more.

”God rules in the affairs of men and he gives it to whomever he wills. A southerner is a Nigerian, a northerner is a Nigerian. We trust God that the best, the fittest, and the most competent will emerge and the one who truly loves our people, especially the poor will rise to fix our nation.

”Many people run in a race but only one person will wear the crown. There is only one seat, whoever wins, the rest of us must rise to support him to rebuild Nigeria. East, West, North or South, Nigeria is our country.”
