Members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress have denied endorsing Ahmad Lawan as the consensus presidential candidate of the party ahead of the party’s presidential primary.

There were reports that the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu on Monday announced Lawan as the consensus candidate.

Naija News learned that Adamu announced Lawan as the party’s preferred candidate at the meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja.

The National Organising Secretary of the party, Suleiman Argungun, while addressing journalists at the party secretariat after the NWC meeting, however, stated that the issue of picking a consensus presidential candidate was not discussed at the meeting.

According to Argungun, Adamu only gave them the information, but they are yet to discuss it.

The ruling party is hoping to produce a candidate that can battle the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party and other presidential candidates in the 2023 race.
