2023: Tinubu, Osinbajo Refuse To Step Down As Consensus Move Collapse

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have reportedly vowed not to withdraw from the presidential race.

Naija News learned that the two presidential aspirants stated that they will contest the APC presidential primary election slated for June 6 to 8 at Eagle Square.

It was learned the moves by the South West APC leaders led by former National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande to produce a consensus presidential candidate for the region collapsed after Tinubu and Osinbajo failed to agree to the consensus plan.

The meeting held at the Abuja residence of the former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba, on Sunday was attended by the aspirants from the South West, governors and elders of the region.

It was learned that the meeting ended without them agreeing on a consensus candidate among the presidential aspirants from the region.

According to Daily Trust, while the meeting was ongoing, the duo of Osinbajo and Tinubu were not ready to shift grounds as they have continued to intensify their consultations and engagements with delegates.

Sources at the meeting said while some of the aspirants were ready to shift grounds, Osinbajo and Asiwaju are not.

“We expect both Asiwaju and VP to slug it out as efforts to persuade one of them to step down have not yielded results as of now,” a source said.
