APC South-West Aspirants Narrow Consensus To Three Names
The details of the meeting between Presidential aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress from the South-West and some leaders from the region have emerged.
Naija News recalls that the APC presidential aspirants from the South West met with the party leaders and stakeholders at the residence of former Ogun Governor, Olusegun Osoba in Abuja.
The meeting which started around 10 p.m on Saturday night extended to 1:00 a.m in the early hours of Sunday morning.
It was gathered that the aspirants and leaders have streamlined their options for the region’s consensus candidate to three aspirants ahead of the APC Presidential primary lasted for tomorrow, June 6.
It was learned that the APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and Governor Kayode Fayemi have been chosen as the three standing aspirants from the South-West.
The leaders are said to have urged four aspirants to step down due to their limited campaign activities for the top office and support any of the three aspirants.
According to Peoples Gazette, the leaders and aspirants asked Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, Tunde Bakare and Dimeji Bankole to withdraw from the race immediately.
It stated that the meeting will continue later on Sunday evening depending on how events unfold and the cooperation of some of the aspirants.
This development comes hours after President Muhammadu Buhari supported the rotation of power to the South in the 2023 general elections.
The President stated this while speaking in at a dinner with All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirants at the Aso Rock Villa.
Besides the aspirants, the meeting also had in attendance former APC Interim National Chairman, Bisi Akande; Governor Rotimi Akeredolu; Governor Gboyega Oyetola; former Ogun Governor Gbenga Daniel, and Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu, amongst others.
