Indications have emerged claiming President Muhammadu Buhari may throw his weight behind Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket.

It was gathered that the Osinbajo’s candidacy is now gaining traction in the presidency due to some recent developments.

Sources in the presidency have now revealed that Osinbajo is being considered for the APC ticket due to a security report.

One source told Daily Trust that the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had received a security report stating that there might be crisis should the party’s ticket be retained in the North.

According to the source, the idea of backing Yemi Osinbajo is to deny former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu the APC ticket.

The source said: “There is security report that the polity would be charged and the 2023 general elections obstructed ifAsiwaju and some of the prominent aspirants are forced out of the race.

“The idea is that by the time Osinbajo is chosen, the South in general will have no reason to protest or do anything funny. Also, the decision will reduce religious and regional tension in the country, including a section of the North.

“So, if by the end of the day he wins, so be it, and if he loses, nobody will complain because the whole idea is to deny Tinubu the presidency.”

Another source disclosed that Tinubu was aware of plans to stop him from getting the ticket, hence his recent outburst while addressing delegates in Ogun State.

“It is obvious that he knows he is out of the calculation at present; that is why he started talking openly, not minding the implication. I know that while they are working hard to ensure that Lawan gets the ticket, they would support Osinbajo at the end of the day, even if he would be defeated. In fact, some of them wouldn’t mind if Atiku wins,” he said.

Recall that Tinubu had boasted, while speaking to APC delegates in Ogun, that Buhari wouldn’t have been president without his help.

He said: “If not me that led the war front, Buhari would not have emerged. He contested first, second and third times, but lost. He even said on television that he would not contest again.

“But I went to his home in Katsina, I told him you would contest and win, but ‘you would not joke with Yoruba matters.

“Since he has emerged, I have not been appointed minister. I didn’t get a contract.

“This time, it’s the Yoruba’s turn and in Yorubaland, it’s my tenure.”

He also claimed to be behind the emergence of Yemi Osinbajo as vice president and Dapo Abiodun as governor of Ogun State.
