2023: Presidential Candidate Gets Summon From Party Over 'Slow Preparations'

Ahead of the 2023 general election, Ugochukwu Ede, a 35-year-old medical practitioner has won the Young Progressives Party’s Enugu State governorship primary.

After polling a total of 17 votes, Ede won the governorship primary held at the Exclusive Serene Hotel in New Haven on Saturday.

Naija News understands that the YPP candidate is also an Information and Technology expert based in California, United States.

Chairman of the YPP Enugu State Governorship Primary Poll Committee, Frank Nweke, revealed that 17 delegates, one from each of the state’s 17 local government areas, participated in the election.

He said: “The party adopted option A4 in the conduct of the primary. We have one aspirant who contested for the governorship ticket of our party. The delegates queued behind the aspirant and after counting, he polled a total of 17 votes to emerge the winner of the primary.”

“By the power conferred on me I, Dr Frank Nweke, Chairman of YPP Enugu State governorship primary election held today, Saturday, June 4, 2022, hereby declare Mr Ugochukwu Bethel Ede as the governorship candidate of YPP, having scored the highest votes in the primary election and hereby returned elected.”

Reacting to his emergence,  Ede thanked the delegates for entrusting him with the party’s gubernatorial mandate and promised not to disappoint them in his acceptance speech.

He stated that his administration would focus on the education sector in order to restore young people’s confidence, which he confessed is at an all-time low.

Ede ascribed the trend to a dearth of job possibilities for graduates who sought to further their studies, stressing that education would be a top concern for his administration.

The US-trained medical practitioner intimated that Enugu state’s aim of becoming a technological state will remain a phantom if the state’s young population remained illiterate, adding that he intends to make Enugu state a technology centre in West Africa.

Making the state a technology centre, he claims, will allow citizens to come up with new ideas, allowing the state to compete with other technology hubs across the world.

On the subject of industrialisation, Edeh indicated that his government would endeavour to industrialize the state by ensuring that industry is developed in each of the 17 LGAs, with the goal of producing jobs for the state’s teeming unemployed.
