FG Provides Relief Materials For Victims Of 2017 Crisis In Taraba

The Federal government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Friday, provided relief materials to victims of the 2017 crisis between Mambilla and Fulani ethnics of Sadauna local government area of Taraba state.

Mr Ayuba Ladan, Head of Operations NEMA, Adamawa and Taraba Office noted at the occasion that the federal government was concerned over the effect of the crisis on the people of the area. He disclosed that the distribution of the relief materials would cover 10 local government areas in the state.

According to Ladan, the President, Muhammadu Buhari had given special attention to the people of the Mambila and appealed to the warring factions as well as the victims of the conflict to forgive one another.

The head of the team assured that the distribution of the items would be done in fairness.

In his response, the Chief of Mambilla, Dr Shehu Audu, noted that the Fulani natives were mostly affected by the crisis.

The paramount ruler while lamenting the negative effect of the crisis in the area, appealed that the victims required to be compensated for the huge losses they incurred as a result of the conflict.

He identified food crisis as the major repercussion of the crisis in the area and appealed to all parties in the crisis to forget the past and embrace peace for the development of the area and Taraba state.

He commended the Federal government for its intervention which according to him would relieve the people from the losses.

“I want to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for the provision of relief materials to victims of the communal crisis on the Mambila.

“It is obvious that the Fulani people were the major victims of the crisis as more lives were lost on their side and their source of livelihood of unimaginable proportion were destroyed and as such required to be assisted.

“I pray we do not experience such a disaster till thy kingdom come and I appeal to the people to forget the past and embrace peace for the development and growth of our land.

“You can see the attendant consequences of the Mambila crisis on us especially in the area of food production.

“Today, everyone is suffering from hunger due to the effect of crisis and I curse the instigators of the crisis forever.”
