The details of the meeting between Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu and five governors of the ruling party have emerged.

Naija News earlier reported that Osinbajo met with Adamu and the five governors in Aguda House, the official residence of the vice president.

According to a Presidency official, the vice president met with the governors and the party chairman to consult with them ahead of the primary scheduled for June 6 and 7.

In a chat with The Punch, the official said the Osinbajo camp was trying to see the aspirants who would step down for the vice president ahead of the primary.

He, however, disclosed that the chances of vice president Osinbajo emerging as the APC presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections are bright.

“The meeting was part of consultations ahead of the primary. We were trying to see those who would step down. Chances look bright for the VP,” he said.

The presidency official listed the governors at the meeting to include Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa) and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun).

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has warned the APC against giving its presidential ticket to a northern candidate.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Akeredolu, the Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Governors’ Forum, urged the party to fight hard to keep power by rotating the presidency to the south.

He wrote: “APC must work to retain power. We must rotate power to retain power !!! Rotate to the South. …Shikena (That’s all)”
