Former Minister of State for Education and presidential aspirant, Chukwuemeka Nwajuiba has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari‘s decision to choose his preferred successor.

Naija News reports that the President had appealed to the APC governors to allow him to pick his preferred successor ahead of the party’s presidential primaries on June 6.

Buhari made the appeal during a meeting with the governors and the National Chairman of the party at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

President Buhari during the meeting also called on APC governors to make decisions that would enable the party to remain in power.

He assured the governors that the consultation process will continue to ensure that all aspirants and stakeholders would be brought on board right through to the convention.

Reacting to the development, Nwajuiba stated that Buhari only asked the governors to support his plan to choose his successor and not impose any candidate.

He stated, “The President said, ‘Support me to choose my successor,’ not that he said he was going to impose a candidate.”

Meanwhile, President Buhari may have settled for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as his preferred All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate.

A presidential source has told selected journalists that Buhari may have settled for his vice.

According to Vanguard, the presidential aide disclosed that a political team has been set up to dialogue with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step down and back Osinbajo as the party’s consensus candidate.
