Breaking: Tambuwal Steps Down From PDP Presidential Race Ticket, Declares Support For Another Aspirant

The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal has pulled out of the race for the 2023 presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports Tambuwal stepped down from the race shortly before voting began at the PDP primaries and declared support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

He told his supporters at the ongoing PDP Presidential primary election at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Saturday night to vote for Atiku.

His decision attracted a loud cheer from delegates at the special convention ground.

Explaining why he stepped down, the Sokoto State Governor submitted the need for the PDP to rally around one another and present a candidate that can save Nigeria informed his decision.

His decision follows shortly after a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, Nwachukwu Anakwenze earlier withdrew from the presidential race for the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

Though the presidential screening committee led by former Senate President, David Mark had screened the US-trained Medical Doctor out of the race.

Anakwenze in his statement warned that if the party change the rule in the middle of the game, no decent competitor would stand a chance to compete fairly.

He disclosed that he withdrew from the race due to the decision of the party to throw its presidential ticket open despite the zoning principle enshrined in the party’s constitution.
