All is now set and the special convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which is expected to produce the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election has commenced.

Naija News reports the presidential primary election of the PDP holding at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja commences today, Saturday, May 28 and will run through Sunday, May 29, 2022.

The presidential aspirants are set to slug it out at the event for the chance to emerge the PDP candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

14 aspirants will go head to head at the primary election in the race to emerge as the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.

Their fate will be decided by 810 delegates who have converged in Abuja.

Mohammed Hayatu-Deen Withdraws From Race

Ahead of the commencement of the primary election, a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has pulled out from the race to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Naija News reports that Hayatu-Deen, a former managing director of the now-defunct FSB International Bank, announced his withdrawal in a letter addressed to Iyorchia Ayu, national chairman of the PDP.

He stated that he withdrew from the race to be President because the contest has been “obscenely monetised”.

There is the heavy presence of a joint team of security officials at the venue of the PDP primaries including operatives of the Nigeria Police, Civil Defence, and the DSS.

Petty traders on Saturday thronged the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party’s special convention, Moshood Abiola Stadium to make brisk sales.

The traders would be hoping to make great sales at the venue of the presidential primary of the main opposition party.

Delegates have started arriving for the accreditation exercise before the commencement of the PDP Presidential primaries. Prominent among those that have arrived is Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

The Governor of Rivers State and presidential aspirant, Nyesom Wike has arrived at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential primary election.

PDP Presidential Aspirant, Atiku Arrives National Convention Amidst Tight Security

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has arrived the MKO Abiola stadium, venue of the 2023 presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Naija News reports that Fourteen aspirants will go head to head at the primary election in the race to emerge as the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has given reasons why over 20 of its operatives stormed the ongoing presidential primary elections of the Peoples Democratic Party at the Moshood Kashimawo Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Naija News earlier reported that operatives of the EFCC stormed the venue of the ongoing PDP’s presidential primary elections in Abuja following reports of alleged vote-buying and bribing of delegates at the event.

The anti-graft commission said it was there to monitor delegates “inducement” and “financial malpractices”.

Tambuwal Steps Down For Atiku

The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal has pulled out of the race for the 2023 presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports Tambuwal stepped down from the race shortly before voting began at the PDP primaries and declared support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Voting Commences

The voting process has commenced after aspirants took turns to address delegates. In a few hours, the PDP will have its presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

Voting has ended in the presidential primary of the PDP, with FCT delegates casting their votes last.

Voting and sorting commence as security operatives watch to prevent any hijack of the process.

Delegates are eating dinner as the sorting and counting of votes continue.
