Orji Kalu Wins APC Senatorial Ticket Unopposed

The lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District and chief whip of the 9th Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu, won the ticket senatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress.

Kalu gathered 777 votes to emerge unopposed after Barr Fabian Nwankwo stepped down from the race.

Chief Paul Onwuka, returning officer for the senatorial primary election declared him a winner in Ebem Ohafia the venue of the election on Saturday.

Kalu in his acceptance speech dedicated his victory to the people of the district and promised to attract more projects to the district.

Top PDP Aspirant Withdraws From Presidential Race, Gives Reason

A presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has pulled out from the race to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Naija News reports that Hayatu-Deen, a former managing director of the now-defunct FSB International Bank, announced his withdrawal in a letter addressed to Iyorchia Ayu, national chairman of the PDP.

He stated that he withdrew from the race to be President because the contest has been “obscenely monetised”.

Hayatu-Deen, however, promised to support whoever emerges as the party’s flag bearer for the 2023 election.

2023: NNPP Postpones Senate, Governorship And Presidential Primary Elections

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Saturday announced the postponement of its Senate, Governorship and Presidential primary elections.

The NNPP announced the postponement in a statement made available to Naija News on Saturday via the party’s official Twitter handle.

According to the party statement, its decision to postpone the primaries follows the extension granted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for political parties to submit their list of candidates for the 2023 general election.

The NNPP said a new date for the conduct of the primaries will be communicated in due course.

2023: PDP Denies Postponing Presidential Primaries

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday debunked reports that it has postponed its presidential primary election scheduled for today.

The party denied reports about the alleged postponement in a statement by Debo Ologunagba, PDP national publicity secretary, Naija News reports.

The main opposition party maintained that its Special National Convention is on course as scheduled.

The PDP also called on members and delegates to disregard news of its postponement.

Buhari’s Ex-aide, Bashir Ahmad Makes Fresh Demand After Heavy Defeat At APC Primaries

A former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, Bashir Ahmad has rejected the result of the House of Representatives primary election held for Gaya/Ajingi/Albasu constituency of Kano state.

It will be recalled as earlier reported by Naija News that Ahmad participated in the primary election but was comprehensively defeated at the polls.

The 30-year-old indigene of Kano State contested for the Albasu/Gaya/Ajingi Federal Constituency seat which is currently being occupied by a member of the ruling party, Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya but lost according to the results released on Friday.

The former presidential aide secured a total of 16 votes, while Gaya polled 109 votes.

In a fresh reaction to the loss, Bashir Ahmad on Saturday released a statement in which he rejected the outcome of the primary election which he said was not credible.

He said the election was manipulated as many delegates were not allowed into the venue of the exercise to cast their votes.

Ahmad, therefore, demanded the cancellation of the result and the conduct of a fresh, free and fair election

The first set of pictures from the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party’s special convention to choose its presidential candidate for the 2023 elections has emerged online.

Naija News reports barring any last-minute change, the PDP will hold its presidential primaries on Saturday (today) and Sunday at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The venue had been inspected by Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and other members of the national convention planning committee ahead of the planned primaries.

APC Sets New Date For Screening Of Presidential Aspirants

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has set a new date for the screening of its presidential aspirants.

This comes after the ruling party shifted its presidential primary to June 6th and 7th after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) extended the deadline for the conduct of the presidential primary election.

Naija News learned that the APC will begin the screening of the presidential aspirants on Monday, May 30 and end on Tuesday, May 31.

A panel made up of lawyers in the legal department will look through the documents submitted by the aspirants as well as reports submitted on them by security agencies.

Crisis Hits APC NWC As National Vice Chairman Accuses Adamu Abdullahi Of Failure

Fresh crisis is threatening to engulf the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) barely two months after its inauguration.

Naija News reports that the crisis is brewing amidst back and forth over the governing party’s failure to screen its presidential aspirants and conduct its national convention to elect its presidential candidate.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the party’s national chairman, has been accused of refusing to act on critical matters.

The accusation was made by a member of the NWC and National Vice Chairman, Northwest, Malam Salihu Moh. Mustaph, who is reportedly loyal to Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Vanguard reports.

He accused the former Nasarawa State governor of allegedly allowing most NWC decisions lay fallow, refusing to implement them.

I’m Not A Saint, But Go And Check My Records – Peter Obi Blasts Wike Over Integrity ‘Attack’

2023 presidential aspirant and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi has retorted that no one can question his integrity over management of public funds/office as he did his best and the records show it.

Obi in a statement on Friday submitted that leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) does not bring his integrity into question or disrepute in any form.

Naija News reports Obi made the submission as a response to Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike who had earlier on Thursday during a TV interview stated that Obi’s decision to dump the PDP a few days to the presidential primaries shows a lack of character and integrity.

But replying Wike’s statement, Obi during an interview on Channels Television Politics Today on Friday said his only offence while in office was refusing to mismanage public funds, hence no one can call him out for lack of integrity.

Obi added that even when has was offered some ‘juicy packages’ while in office, he rejected them and opted to live within his means.

PDP Reacts To INEC Extension Of Presidential Primary Election Deadline

The Peoples Democratic Party has criticised the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the deadline for party primary elections by six days.

Naija News had reported that INEC on Friday announced the extension of the deadline for political parties to conduct their presidential primary election.

The electoral body extended the deadline after massive pressure from political parties under the aegis of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).

Reacting to the development, the PDP slammed the electoral agency for extending the deadline after the main opposition party is ready to conduct its presidential primary.

In a chat with Channels Television on Friday, PDP spokesperson, Debo Ologungba, said INEC had changed the goalpost in the middle of the game.

Presidential aspirant and former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi is set to rally a seven-party coalition to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 presidential election.

The move was disclosed by his ally, Doyin Okupe, moments after Obi joined the Labour Party where he would fly his presidential ambition.

Senator Teslim Folarin Emerges Oyo APC Gubernatorial Candidate

Senator Teslim Folarin has emerged the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Oyo State in the 2023 governorship election.

Naija News reports that Folarin was declared the winner at the primary held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, on Friday.

The lawmaker Folarin polled 954 delegates votes to defeat his closest rival, Adebayo Adelabu.

Adelabu, who was absent from venue of the primary, had 327 delegates votes, Akeem Agbaje followed with 15 votes, Hakeem Alao had six votes, Azeez Adeduntan had two votes while Niyi Akintola had no vote.

Speaking to newsmen after his declaration as the winner of the primary on Friday, Senator Folarin dedicated his victory to his late wife, Angela.

2023: Northern Leader’s Plan To Stop Wike Presidency Fails

The plan of some Northern leaders under the Peoples Democratic Party to endorse a consensus candidate ahead of the party’s presidential primary today, Saturday has failed.

A meeting was held on Friday night to pick a consensus presidential candidate from the north.

It was gathered that the former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido a supporter of Aminu Tambuwal had called for a consensus candidate.

The leader aims to prevent the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike from emerging as the sole candidate of the party.

Some of those who attended the meeting include Emeka Ihedioha, former governor of Imo, who is Tambuwal’s ally; Aliyu Gusau, former national security adviser; and Ben Obi, Atiku’s associate.

According to sources that spoke with The Cable, Wike has been seen as a threat to the north because of his network and war chest.

The former National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olu Falae, on Friday said there is no provision for zoning in the Constitution of Nigeria.

Falae stated this while reacting to the call for the presidency to be shifted to the South-East in the 2023 general elections.

The former minister of finance condemned the call for zoning during a visit by the executives of the Ondo State chapter of the party in Akure.

The Chairman of SDP in the state, Dele Thomas led the newly-elected executives.

2023: Nigeria Not Difficult To Manage – Obasanjo Tells Hayatu-deen

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday expressed confidence that one of the presidential aspirants under the Peoples Democratic Party, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has the knowledge to lead Nigeria.

The elder statesman, however, stated that Nigeria is a complex country and we need to understand its complexity of Nigeria.

Obasanjo further noted that Nigeria is not a difficult country to manage but we must all be ready to satisfy our conscience.

The former President made this claim when Hayatu-deen and his team visited Obasanjo at his hilltop mansion in Ota, Ogun State, recently.
