APC Primaries: Kano Deputy Governor Emerges Governorship Candidate

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Nasiru Gawuna, has won the governorship ticket of the All Progress Congress (APC) for the 2023 general election.

Gawuna’s emergence comes after polling 2,289 votes to defeat his only opponent, Sha’aban Sharada, at the party’s primaries held on Thursday, May 27, 2022.

Naija News reports that Sharada, a member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, scored 30 votes to emerge as the runner-up in the election.

The outcome of the APC primaries was confirmed shortly after the exercise headed by the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Alhaji Tijjani Kaura.

Announcing the results, the electoral committee chairman said that 2,339 total votes were cast while 2,319 votes were valid, adding that Gawuna polled 2,289 votes to win the governorship ticket.

He, therefore, declared Gawuna the winner of the exercise held on Thursday night at the Indoor Sports Complex, Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

Meanwhile, former Executive Director of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency SMEDAN, Dikko Radda, has been confirmed as the All Progressives Congress, APC flag-bearer for Katsina State 2023 governorship election.

His confirmation comes after polling the highest votes at the party’s primaries held on Thursday, May 27, 2022.

Radda had won the APC ticket with just a little margin from Mustapha Inuwa, the former Secretary to the State Government and Abbas Umar Masanawa, the immediate past CEO of Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc.

He polled 506 votes in the tight contest. Dr Inuwa had come second with a total of 442 votes while Masanawa secured 436 votes to occupy the third position.
