2023 Presidency: Fayemi Opens Up On What He Knows About Jonathan As APC Member, Consensus Candidate

Ekiti State Governor and 2023 presidential aspirant, Kayode Fayemi has declared he is not aware that former President Goodluck Jonathan is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Governor submitted that the official status of former President Goodluck Jonathan in APC is unknown to him.

Naija News reports Gov. Fayemi made the submission during an interview with Arise TV which was released on Thursday amidst the speculations surrounding the rumoured plans by Jonathan to defect to APC and contest the 2023 presidency on the platform of the ruling party.

He made the declaration when he was asked by the anchor about the possibility of Jonathan emerging as the consensus candidate of the APC for the 2023 presidential election.

Sanwo-Olu Grabs Lagos APC Governorship Ticket

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Thursday grab the Gubernatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to seek reelection.

Naija News reports that Sanwo-Olu, who will be seeking a second-term will now slug it out against Olajide Adediran, popularly called Jandor, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s election.

Speaking after his victory, Sanwo-Olu invited his co-contestants to join hands with his administration.

Goodluck Jonathan Speaks On Ongoing Primaries In APC, PDP

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday described the ongoing primaries being conducted by the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, and other parties as a mess.
According to Jonathan, the practices employed in the primaries are not standard practice, adding that the process has failed.

He further stated that the process can not be used to elect the President, governors, Senators, House of Representatives members and others.

The former president stated that he hopes what happened in 2022 would not happen again in Nigeria.

Jonathan stated this while speaking in Abuja at a book launch titled “Political Party Governance” authored by Dr Mohammed Wakil, a former Minister of State, Power.

APC Bars Governorship Aspirant From Venue Of Lagos Primary Election

There was drama on Thursday as one of the governorship aspirants in Lagos State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Abdul-Ahmed Mustapha was not granted access to the venue of the primary election.

It was gathered that Mustapha, who resigned as a Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Minerals Resources in Lagos about a year ago to contest the state’s governorship post was denied access when he arrived on Thursday.

Explaining his experience, Mustapha narrated that he was told at the entrance that he wasn’t cleared for the exercise hence could not be given an accreditation tag to allow him into the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, formerly known as Onikan Stadium, venue of the APC exercise.

The aspirant however argued that he duly participated in the screening exercise in Abuja two weeks ago but the outcome of the screening wasn’t communicated to them, only for him to be denied access to the venue of the primary election on the main day.

2023 Presidency: I’m Sad Peter Obi Dumped PDP – Bode George

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olabode George, has reacted to the resignation of a presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, from the party.

Naija News reports that the former PDP Presidential aspirant had on Wednesday announced his defection ahead of the PDP’s presidential primary election.

The former Anambra State Governor tendered his resignation letter at the PDP National Secretariat through his Campaign Director, Doyin Okupe.

It was learned that Obi’s exit came as the politician expressed fears he might be humiliated at the convention in Abuja.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television on Wednesday, George said he was surprised by the news of Obi dumping the PDP, a few days before the party’s presidential primaries.

The PDP chieftain said he was sad about Obi’s decision because the former governor is an asset to the party, adding that he has established himself as a respectable and responsible politician.

2023: NNPP Presidential Aspirant, Femi Ajadi Steps Down For Kwankwaso

Femi Ajadi, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has stepped down from the presidential race to support the presidential ambition of a former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Ajadi revealed his decision during a press conference at the NUJ secretariat, Okelewo, Abeokuta on Thursday.

According to Ajadi, he withdrew his presidential ambition to be the running mate of Kwakwanso.

2023 Presidency: Fayemi Gives Conditon To Support Consensus

The Governor of Ekiti State and Presidential hopeful, Kayode Fayemi, has given condition to support the idea of consensus in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayemi said all presidential aspirants must agree to step down for the consensus candidate and accept the person if the ruling party eventually adopt consensus.

According to the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), the idea of consensus candidacy is democratic but he would love to slug it out with other hopefuls at the party’s presidential primaries.

He asked the APC to allow all presidential aspirants to test their popularity and give room for the delegates to choose the candidate who will make Nigeria a better place.

After Our Presidential Primaries, Rivers PDP Leaders Will Start Working For 2023 Victory, Says Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said that after the presidential primaries, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in his state will set up a team that will work to ensure that the party wins the 2023 gubernatorial election.

Wike who said he never knew he will be governor when he became governor of the oil-rich state added that the emergence of Siminialayi Fubara as PDP governorship candidate is God’s design.

Like Wike, Fubara has said that he never knew he will become the PDP governorship candidate.

Wike has, however, expressed optimism that those who believe in the party will be dutiful in working for Fubara to win the 2023 governorship poll.

APC Clears Gbajabiamila To Contest Sixth Consecutive Term

After serving as a lawmaker five consecutive times, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has been cleared to go for another term.

A document obtained by newsmen on Thursday, May 26 showed that the Lagosian has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress, APC to seek a return ticket.

Gbajabiamila was named among 91 others to contest the 24 House of Representatives seats at the primary slated for Saturday, Naija News understands.

The development would have the lawmaker making a 6th consecutive run.

Goodluck Jonathan Secretly Submits APC Presidential Nomination Form To APC Chairman, Adamu – Source

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has reportedly submitted a presidential nomination and expression of interest forms of All Progressives Congress (APC) to the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu.

It was noted that Jonathan submitted the N100 million forms to Adamu a few days earlier.

A source that spoke with SaharaReporters said, “His form has secretly been submitted. He submitted his nomination form through the APC Chairman a few days ago.

“Members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabal are still pushing for Jonathan to become the party’s consensus candidate.”

Ogun: Adebutu, Sowunmi Emerge Parallel PDP Guber Candidates

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has produced two governorship candidates, Ladi Adetutu and Segun Sowunmi in a parallel primary.

The two factions of the main opposition party held their primary at different locations in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Wednesday.

The spokesman of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Sowunmi, former lawmaker, Adebutu, an ex-banker, Jimi Lawal and Abodunrin Abimbola, are the four aspirants battling for the PDP ticket.

2023: Abacha’s Son Emerges PDP Governorship Candidate In Kano State

Alhaji Muhammad Abacha, son of former military leader Sani Abacha, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket in Kano.

However, Abacha’s victory is still shaky as a parallel primary was also held in the state on Wednesday

Abacha garnered 736 votes to defeat his closest rival, Jafar Sani-Bello, who scored 710 votes in the primary election on Wednesday, May 25, in Kano state.

Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Hajiya Amina Garba declared Abacha as the winner of the primaries having scored 736 votes.

Ex-Sokoto Deputy Governor, Shehu Shagari Dumps PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has lost the membership of former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Barrister Mukhtar Shehu Shagari.

Naija News understands that Shagari had in March 2022, declared his intention to contest the state governorship seat under the platform of the PDP.

Shagari, however, in a statement dated Wednesday, May 25, announced his resignation from PDP, stating betrayal as his reason for withdrawing from the party.

He takes the blame further on the State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, accusing him of not keeping to his words.
