The official rate today, Monday, 23rd May, 2022, for £1 pound to naira = ₦518.0198/£1.

According to the data from the CBN, exchange rate between the naira and the British pounds opened at ₦518.0198/£1 on Monday May 23rd, after it sold at 515.8696 to a £1 on Friday, 20th May 2022.

Naija News reports that a pound is bought at the official market at ₦517.3958 and sold for ₦518.6438.

E-Naira: Digital Currency Will Complement, Not Eliminate Naira Notes – CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Saturday disowned the statement credited to one of its staff that it would withdraw naira notes from circulation and replace it with the digital currency, known as eNaira.

The Director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Mr Osita Nwanisobi, however said the digital currency would complement the naira notes.

In the statement titled ‘CBN disowns statement on withdrawal of naira notes from circulation’, Nwanisobi disclaimed the statement purported to have been made during a stakeholders’ engagement on eNaira adoption in Asaba, Delta State, on Friday.

He said the statement was misconstrued and should be disregarded.
