Naija News looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Monday, May 23rd 2022.

The PUNCH: The All Progressives Congress chapters in states including Rivers, Benue, Oyo and Sokoto are currently facing crises arising from last week’s election of delegates for governorship primaries holding on Thursday. Factional leaders and aspirants in separate interviews with The PUNCH on Sunday alleged that elections were not held rather delegates were hand-picked by rival groups.

The Guardian: As political parties enter the decision week where delegates will determine flag bearers for the 2023 general elections, some presidential aspirants – in both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – are set to stand down, considering the last minute political tinkering.

Vanguard: Fresh facts emerged over the weekend suggesting that barring any last-minute success for lobbying, President Muhammadu Buhari may not sign the amended Electoral Act, 2022.

This Day: With just a few days to the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), presidential hopeful and former Minister of State for Education,  Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has described the trio of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo,  Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Senator Ibikunle Amosun – all contenders for the APC ticket – as unsuitable for Nigeria’s current work plan.

The Nation: With a lot of drama, clashes and upsets, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday held primaries across the states to pick candidates for House of Representatives and House of Assembly elections. There were upsets in Bayelsa and Ondo states, where the daughter of former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, Orode, lost the PDP Warri North Constituency ticket to Fred Martins, and Minority leader of Ondo State House of Assembly Rasheed Elegbeleye, lost out at the primary to Akintola Olarenwaju.
