An Ekiti State man has invited trouble for himself after diverting an N-Power beneficiary’s monthly stipends to his wife, Naija News reports.

The suspect identified as Baderinwa Waheed was alleged to have illegally accessed the N-power dashboard of one Adeola Olofin and changed her details to his wife’s.

A prosecutor, Mr Olaolu Olayinka, mentioned at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in March 2021 in Ado-Ekiti.

Waheed allegedly conspired with one Tiamiyu Salimot to commit the computer-related fraud, stripping Olofin of her five months N-POWER stipends.

Olayinka alleged that the defendant and Salimot changed Olofin’s password, name and account number, thereby causing her to lose five months’ N-POWER stipend calculated at N150,000.

According to him, the victim’s phone had developed a fault as she forwarded her N-POWER log in details to the defendant to help her check for messages.

He said that the defendant told the victim that there was no message.

The victim, however, discovered later that the defendant hacked her account and diverted her details to his wife, making her beneficiary of her (Olofin’s) stipends for five months.

Olayinka said that the offences contravened Section 14(1), (2) and (3) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention) Act, 2015.

Naija News understands that the plea of the defendant fell on the deaf ears of the Chief Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, who ordered the remand of the 33-year-old pending advice from the office of the state director of public prosecutions.

Oluwasanmi adjourned the case until June 20 for mention.
