Benue State police command on Thursday said it has charged 20 persons suspected to be cult members terrorizing Makurdi the Benue state capital to court for legal action.

In a press statement issued to journalists in Makurdi, the Police Command expressed that, it had embarked on a clampdown operation on cultism in Makurdi metropolis In the last three weeks and arrested 20 suspected cultists

The statement explained that the operation was in collaboration with other security agencies as well as members of the community to restore peace in the state capital.

According to the statement, the suspects arrested during the operation were, Obieze Chibuzor, Daniel Sabo, Friday Chimana of North Bank, who were arrested in possession of fourteen (14) packs of dry leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp. Akegh Beeior Oscar, Terwase Saaior and Peter Adura were arrested with two locally made pistols and three (3) cartridges and (14) others

The command while expressing its desire to fight the menace of cultism in the state, advised parents, teachers, traditional and religious leaders to join the fight against social vice capable of destroying young people.
