A masquerade and two other people have been crushed to death by a truck in the Mushin area of the Lagos state.

Naija News reports that security operatives from Area D Command in Lagos prevented an outbreak of violence following the incident that happened approximately 2:30 pm on Wednesday, May 11, along the Isolo road, according to The Guild.

The incident led enraged traditionalists to attempt lynching the driver to show their displeasure with the situation.

The police fired tear gas canisters to disperse the mob, who requested that the driver should be handed over to them when it became disorderly and chaotic, leading demonstrators and other road users to flee to safety.

The driver was said to have escaped into the Command.

The request was denied by the police, causing confusion at the station as vehicles was forced to reroute from the area because the Expressway was blocked by traditionalists.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident, but added that the situation had been brought under control.
