Goodluck Jonathan Reacts, Condemns Violence, Killings In Bayelsa State

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been in the news in the past few days over his alleged presidential ambition in the 2023 general elections.

Some quarters believe the former president has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party and would be contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

To enhance the heat around his presidency rumours, a Northern group purchased the Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms of the ruling party for him.

Even though the former president came out to distance himself from the action of the group which purchased the form for him, there claims that Jonathan has joined APC in Bayelsa State.

With all this drama in play, the former president on different occasions has not officially committed himself to running in the 2023 race.

Naija News has deemed fit to share some occasions when Jonathan distanced himself from the 2023 presidential election.

1. The spokesperson to former President, Ikechukwu Eze on the 8th of January, 2023 debunked rumours that his principal is putting structures in place to contest the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.

Eze in his statement also ruled out the possibility of Jonathan joining the ruling APC.

2. Jonathan on the 22nd of April, 2022, told demonstrators calling on him to contest in the presidential race that he can’t tell them if he would be declaring or not for the 2023 presidential race yet.

The former president stated this when the demonstrators stormed his private office in Abuja, calling on him to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari at the end of his tenure.

3. Jonathan on the 10th of May, in a statement released through his spokesman, Eze stated that he is not aware of the presidential form which was purchased by a Northern group.

According to him, Jonathan would make his intentions clear to the public if he wills to join the presidential race and will not enter through the back door.

Nigerians are patiently waiting on the final decision of the former president as the 2023 race draws closer.
