Shekarau Gives Update On Defection Plans, Tells Nigerians What To Expect
Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau

Former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, is reportedly consulting associates and party stakeholders for a possible defection from the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.

Reports reaching Naija News on Wednesday morning revealed that the two-term former Governor has been holding meetings with his top political associates and would make a public declaration on his next move soon.

Shekarau’s craving for a political shift is coming following the victory of the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje faction at the Supreme Court days ago, Naija News understands.

More to it, the governor’s subsequent endorsement of his deputy for the party’s governorship ticket is understood to have stirred uproar within the party.

After the court verdict which was in favour of Ganduje, Shekarau who happens to be the leader of the G7 faction that went to court on the state’s party’s leadership issue, is said to have summoned a meeting of his top political associates and consultation team, known as the “Shura Council”.

The said political team has been reportedly holding closed-door meetings for days, and sources close to the senator revealed that the recent meeting was associated with the senator’s decision which would soon be made public.

Naija News learnt that some aggrieved members of the party have been romancing with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Some of them were said to have met with the National Leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in Abuja.

This is as Shekarau is unsure of the reconciliation moves between him and the incumbent leadership in the state and doubts if he would get an automatic ticket for the senate as agreed by the party’s national leadership.

When contacted on the senator’s move, his spokesperson, Dr Sule Ya’u Sule, told newsmen that Shekarau had not decamped from APC yet, but that consultation was ongoing and that the outcome would be communicated to the public.
