2023 Presidency: Atiku Meets Former PDP Governors [Video]

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar, has met with former Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the party’s presidential primary.

Naija News reports that the former vice president met with the former governors at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, on Tuesday night.

Atiku was accompanied to the meeting by the Chairman of the Technical Committee, Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, and former Kogi Senator, Dino Melaye.

Some of the former governors at the meeting include Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Ibrahim Idris (Kogi), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Lyiel Imoke (Cross River), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Boni Haruna (Adamawa), Theodore Orji (Abia) and Emeka Ihedohia (Imo), among others.

This comes after a report emerged claiming the PDP had concluded plans to reduce its presidential aspirants from 15 to just three ahead of its primaries.

Sources have told Daily Independent that the leadership of the PDP is looking to take a presidential candidate from the North as a form of payback for what the APC did in 2015.

It was however gathered that the seeming preference for a Northern candidate may have affected the chances of Southern candidates like Anyim, Obi, Wike, Emmanuel, Momodu, Ohuabunwa and others who are from the South.

According to projections from the report, one of the aspirants like Anyim, Obi, Wike and Udom will most likely be selected as the running mates to the eventual presidential candidate.

Those in the race for the PDP ticket include Abubakar; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; former banker, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen; Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State; Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State; former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi; former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim; Media mogul, Dele Momodu; Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom; Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and others.
