2023: Major Blow For Political Parties As INEC Rejects Move To Adjust Election Timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected moves by political parties in the country for the 2023 election timetable to be adjusted.

Naija News reports that on Tuesday, the political parties speaking under the auspices of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) called on INEC to extend the deadline for the conduct of party primaries to August 4, 2022.

Senate Amends 2022 Electoral Act

The 9th Senate led by Dr. Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday amended the Electoral Act 2022 to allow statutory delegates to participate in political parties’ congresses and conventions.

The Electoral Act which was assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari in February 2022, prevents statutory delegates from taking part in party primaries.

The All Progressives Congress has broken silence on the report making rounds that the former president Goodluck Jonathan has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the ruling party.
