A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Imo State, Senator Arthur Nzeribe, has been reported dead.

Naija News learned that the ace politician died on Saturday evening at age 83 after battling an undisclosed illness.

A close relative told The Nation that preparation is ongoing by his family to make an official statement on the demise of the octogenarian and billionaire.

It is understood that Nzeribe, who was the longest-serving Senator from Imo, had been on life support for a while.

The deceased was a First Republic politician who represented Imo West at the National Assembly.

Nzeribe had hit a mega fortune at age 22, becoming a major player in the nation’s financial sector.

Providence smiled at him and he became so powerful and influential in Nigeria’s political landscape.

He was elected a Senator to represent Orlu in 1999.
