2023 Presidency: Peter Obi Not Interested In Becoming Atiku's Running Mate

The camp of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi says he is in the 2023 race for the presidency and not any other position.

This is as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also been warned not to take any step that will comprise the outcome of the party’s presidential primaries.

The Peter Obi Support Network (POSN) made the stand known in a statement in Abuja on Thursday by its National Co-ordinator, Comrade Sani Saeed Altukry in which it reacted to the insinuations in some sections of the media that Mr. Obi may eventually negotiate and agree to a Vice Presidency slot or that Atiku Abubakar has chosen Obi as his preferred running mate.

But POSN in its statement said those trying to force a northern candidate on Nigerians are the ones behind the reports.

It cautioned that in the interest of fairness and justice, the 2023 presidency should be zoned to the south by the PDP.

“Our attention has been drawn to a media report that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, one of the presidential aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has opted for the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi as his running mate ahead of the 2023 Presidential race.

“We consider the report – which we understand was published in a national newspaper as ‘arrant nonsense!”

“Peter Obi’s presidential ambition is not negotiable as he has repeatedly assured us and other Nigerians that have consulted him on his ambition that he is in the presidential race to win.

”The group considered as ‘fake news, reports making the rounds that “Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was considering Mr Obi as his running mate.”

The group also charged the PDP leadership to speak out immediately and make the party’s position on the issue of zoning known.

“Finally, we hereby demand that the PDP leadership must speak out immediately on the issue of zoning rather than playing hide-and-seek with the matter,” the group added in its statement.
