The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase, has cried out over incessant kidnapping and terrorist activities in his constituency.

The lawmaker who is representing Wase Federal Constituency of Plateau State appealed to the government to come to the aide of his people who can not now sleep with their two eyes closed.

Naija News reports that Wase raised the alarm on Wednesday while speaking on a motion of matter of urgent public importance moved by Abdullahi Salame from Sokoto State.

He said: “Virtually, every day in my constituency today, I have one kidnap report or the other every day.”

Salame had begged for the establishment of a national task force to combat insecurity.

Mr Wase, however, opposed the establishment of a new security outfit, noting that the existing security outfits should be allowed to discharge their duties.

He submits that the creation of a new outfit is unconstitutional, rather the existing outfits should be strengthened to discharge their duties.

The prayer to establish the new outfit was rejected, however, a new motion was moved by the Deputy Minority Leader, Toby Okechukwu, asking President Muhammadu Buhari to save Nigerians from the current security situation.

Okechukwu’s amendment was adopted by the President, Naija News understands.

Meanwhile, gunmen on Tuesday attacked police officers at a checkpoint at Agwa in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

A resident in the community told Punch that the gunmen met the policeman and his colleagues at a checkpoint and opened fire on them.

The source said; “Unknown gunmen killed a police officer at Agwa Police Divisional Headquarters, Agwa, Oguta LGA, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at about 4pm. The deceased officer Ukam Efut and two others were at a certain checking point, as usual, where they mounted a roadblock and were collecting money from illegal oil dealers (bunkering).

Mr Ukam, the deceased officer, was shot dead and his p*nis cut off by his killers and made away with the p*nis. One of the other two officers sustained wounds on his face.

“We call the place he was shot dead Okpo-efi junction, Agwa Ejemekwuru road. The development was really unfortunate as they made away with the man’s private part. The community is quiet now.”
