Months after embracing peace, hoodlums suspected to be armed herdsmen have reportedly killed a farmer in the Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The victim, Musa Monsuro, was heading to his cashew farm at Araromi village, Igboora, around 5 pm on Monday when he was ambushed and murdered by the assailants, Naija News learnt.

It is yet unclear what had happened between him and the killer herdsmen, reports, however, suggested that those behind the act were herdsmen.

According to the PUNCH, some residents of the community had explained on Tuesday that security agents were briefed about the occurrence and they went to the farm to pick up the corpse, which was taken to a mortuary.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, has confirmed the incident to newsmen in a terse statement on Tuesday.

He said, β€œThe case is undergoing investigation. You will be updated accordingly.”

Naija News recalls that the killing is coming months after confrontation and reprisal attacks between suspected herdsmen and residents of the community.

The Ibarapa community is reported to have witnessed excesses from herdsmen who allegedly killed, maimed, raped residents and destroyed farmlands.

The continuous attack birthed the trouble for Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho who visited the area to warn against such acts, Naija News recalls.
