Abdul Abiola, one of the sons of the late Chief MKO Abiola has demanded a thorough investigation into his father’s death, 24 years after.

Fullname, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola died on 7 July 1998, Naija News recalls.

The ace journalist and politician was presumed winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential elections but his election was annulled by the then head of state, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida before the official results were released.

MKO Abiola died the day he was due to regain his freedom from prison and his shocking demise was trailed by suspicious circumstances.

An official autopsy though stated that he died of a heart attack but some other unconfirmed reports say the politician was killed.

Two decades have passed and the deceased’s son, Abdul Abiola is asking President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the circumstances that led to the death of his father.

Naija News understands that Abiola made the appeal in a social media post on Tuesday.

The deceased’s son is quoted to have asked that Buhari look into Nigeria’s archives to reveal the truth about his father’s demise.

He reiterated that it is time for Nigerians to know the truth about what led to the death of his father.

According to him, the truth will help bring about justice.

His quoted tweets read: “It is time for the Nigerian people to know the truth as to what happened in the post-June 12, 1993 elections.

“And also, what led to the death of MKO Abiola and Kudirat Abiola and other unsung heroes.

“I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to look into our country archives for justice to prevail.”
