As Muslims mark, the conclusion of Ramadan, Ojo Youths in Lagos have called for higher living standards for Nigerians but have warned that if citizens stay politically submissive, they will remain poor.

This was revealed during an early morning Mubarak Walk and Sensitization in Lagos to commemorate Ramadan ending.

They called on President Muhammadu Buhari, governors, and council chairmen to improve Nigerians’ living standards.

The road performance sparked patriotic fervour among young people outside of the religious community, campaigning against conscience buying and selling during the upcoming general elections in 2023.

One of the youth leaders, Al Mufutua Goriola, stated that the period of youths being compliant with maladministration was over.

Goriola claimed that “hyperinflation” had resulted in famine and sickness, with many people dying prematurely.

He added that Ramadan’s spiritual rebirth should have an impact on people’s social lives, encouraging them to ask questions and make demands that could lead to societal re-engineering for the greater good.

He said: If you continue to be docile without holding leaders accountable, people’s living standards will not improve. Redeeming our collective social value in all ramifications is a lesson of Ramadan.

Therefore, it behoves us to change the trend that has made us indigent in a land of plenty. Our religious posture should not be a barrier for us to put ourselves in the scheme of things we know can improve our lives.
