Nigerian Lawmaker, Nse Ekpenyong Is Dead

Hon. Nse Ekpenyong representing Oron Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives is dead.

The lawmaker who was 58-year-old before his death, reportedly died on Saturday.

According to Premium Times, the Chairman of Mbo Local Government Area, Asuqwo Eyo confirmed the death of the lawmaker.

Eyo disclosed that Ekpenyong who is from the area was not ill before his death.

The late lawmaker completed his second term as representative of Oron Federal Constituency in the house by May 2023.

Ekpenyong had once served as the deputy chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State and was also a former member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila is expected to declare Ekpenyong’s seat vacant following his death.

While the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct a fresh election to fill the seat.
