Fears As Explosion Hits Senate President Lawan’s Home Town

A late-night explosion has caused unrest in the Gashua town of Yobe State.

The community where Senate President, Ahmed Lawan hails from was put in fear on Sunday night after the yet to be identified deadly device exploded, Naija News reports.

Gashua is situated in Bade Local Government Area, about 188 kilometres away from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

The Sunday night explosion according to reports, occurred at a beer parlour in the Abasha area of the town when the Muslim faithful were observing late evening prayers.

A resident of the community who confided in Daily Post, said they were praying in the mosques around 8 pm when they heard the disturbing noise of the explosive device suspected to be an IED.

One person reportedly died in the incident while at least seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

They were immediately rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Gashua for medical treatment, the source who pleaded not to be mentioned told reporters.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

There are, however, suspicions that the attack was carried out by members of the dreaded Boko Haram group.

Naija News understands that terrorists of the Islamic State in West African Province, ISWAP recently claimed the responsibility for some attacks in the Northern part of the country.

The most recent is the gruesome killing of officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Kogi State on Saturday, April 23, 2022.

The previous was the bombing of a market in Taraba State.

Recall that no less than three persons were killed and nineteen injured as a bomb went off in a drinking joint at a cattle market in Iware Community of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State.
