ISWAP Claim Responsibility For Killing Of Police Officers In Kogi

The Islamic State in West African Province, ISWAP has claimed responsibility for the gruesome killing of officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Kogi State on Saturday, April 23, 2022.

Naija News had reported earlier that unknown gunmen numbering about six attacked a police station in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State yesterday.

The attack according to reports, happened around 2 a.m in the morning.

The terrorists are said to have attacked the police station from different angles, shooting at officers on duty.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP William Aya, has since confirmed the incident.

An emerging report, however, on Sunday from the Voice of America said ISWAP released a statement claiming responsibility for the attack.

“The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) claimed responsibility in a statement on Telegram,” VOA said in the report.

“Soldiers of the Caliphate attacked a police station,” it said.

The report further revealed that five people were killed in the attack, against the three reported earlier.

Naija News observed that ISWAP is systematically and gradually taking some territories in the country.

The terror group recently claimed responsibility for the bombing of a market in Taraba State.

Naija News had reported earlier that no less than three persons were killed and nineteen injured as a bomb went off in a drinking joint at a cattle market in Iware Community of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The unfortunate incident took place on Tuesday, April 19th when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off at the Iware cattle market.

A statement credited to the terrorist group on Wednesday claimed at least 30 people were killed and injured at the market where alcohol was sold.

ISWAP subsequently acknowledged the attack.
