Dr Olu Agunloye has reacted to his suspension as the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Naija News earlier reported that Agunloye was suspended by the Ondo State chapter of the party in a letter dated March 28, over alleged anti-party activities.

In the suspension letter, Agunloye was accused of bringing non-party members into the party to cause confusion and disturb the functions of the party executives at both state and local government levels.

According to the letter, Agunloye was suspended from his ward (ward 10) in Ondo state, following a resolution after a meeting of the ward executive members.

Reacting to the development, Agunloye stated that his suspension was “a joke taken too far”, adding that he has not been suspended as claimed by the Ondo state chapter of the party.

The former Ondo Senator claimed that wards, local governments or state cannot suspend the national chairman of the party, describing the move as “political rascality”.

He said the ward or the state chapter can only recommend his suspension to the National Working Committee of the party, asking members to disregard the letter.

“No. Nothing like that. l am presiding as national chairman in Abuja as we write. Besides, wards or local government or state cannot suspend.

“They can only recommend to the National Working Committee, which the committee can recommend to NEC (National Executive Council). Please, disregard political rascalities,” he said in a statement.

Speaking on the development, Ondo state chairman of SDP, Dele Ogunbameru, said the suspension of Agunloye from the party was valid and backed by the party’s constitution.

Ogunbameru said the state working committee was concerned over the endless anti-party activities and other infractions committed by Agunloye.

“It was on this note that the state executive committee met in an emergency session and also suspended the membership of Dr Agunloye from the party,” he said.
