An angry mob has attacked a suspected kidnapper after a former abductee recognized and identified him at Idi-Ori area of Abeokuta North LGA of Ogun State.

Reports have it that the suspect was walking around the area on April 18 when one of his alleged former victims recognized him and raised an alarm that he paid ransom to the suspect and others.

A witness who identified herself as Olubukola told Daily Trust that a mob descended on the suspect and beat him to a pulp.

The witness said: “They tied his hands and legs. They beat him and gave him a bloody nose. He would have been lynched if not for the arrival of the police.

“At first, the youths did not want to release him to the police. They said they didn’t trust the police. Their fear was that he might be released on bail. They insisted that they’re very sure he was a kidnapper.”

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, Spokesman of the police in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the man remained a suspect as investigation was ongoing.

The PPRO, however, condemned the attempt to lynch the suspect, saying the law did not permit jungle justice.
