Nigerians Have The Opportunity To Vote, They Shouldn't Complain About What They Get - Amaechi

Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi has explained why he ran around the Port Harcourt Stadium during his presidential bid declaration last week.

Naija News reports that Amaechi had sparked reactions days ago after a video of him running around the sports ground ‘to prove he is fit to run for the presidency, surfaced on the internet.

The former Governor of Rivers State is among aspirants contesting for the 2023 presidential seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Amaechi’s action at the Port Harcourt stadium has raised many questions as Nigerians wonder what the politician was up to.

Some have clearly asserted that Amaechi was making a mockery of the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is also contesting for the office of the president.

Speaking, however, during his consultation visit to Ile Ife, at the palace of the Ooni of Ife on Monday, Amaechi said he took the laps just to be sure how fit he was.

The minister said he is like a bridge between the young and the old.

“Age will not be an issue. I am like a bridge between the young and the old,” Amaechi said.

He added: “People have asked me why I ran round the stadium, I was checking to see how fit I am, so I had to run round the stadium to confirm to myself that I’m strong enough to carry the problems of the country, whether it is mentally or physically.

“Because you need both mental capacity and physical fitness to manage this country.

“You have to be physically strong and have the mental capacity to make decisions on behalf of the country,” he stated.
