Reactions As Northern Elders Ask Buhari To Resign Over Insecurity

Several reactions have trailed the call by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) for President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately resign from office over worsening insecurity across the nation.

Naija News had earlier reported that the Director, Publicity and Advocacy of NEF, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, made the call in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Baba-Ahmed, President Buhari’s administration does not appear to have answers to the security challenges in the country.

The NEF spokesman added that the Nigerian constitution allows leaders to voluntarily step down if they prove incapable of leading.

Baba-Ahmed noted that criminals in the country have sensed the vacuum at the highest levels of leadership.

Following the development, some Nigerians took to social media to berate the northern elders for keeping quiet for so long while terrorists wreak havoc in the North.

While others backed the NEF on their call for President Buhari to step down, saying that the president should resign if he does not have any solution to the security challenges facing the country.
