Nigeria’s former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili, has reacted to the death of popular gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu.

Recall that the death of the ‘Ekwueme’ singer was announced on Friday.

She was said to have died after battling cancer. Reports, however, emerging alleged that the singer has been subjected to assault by her husband.

It was reported that Mrs Osinachi had de endured domestic violence from her husband.

The likes of popular gospel singer, Frank Edwards, has also shared his understanding about Osinachi’s challenges.

Naija News learnt several persons have encouraged the singer to leave her marital home but Osinachi had refused to leave her husband’s house.

Joining thousands of Nigerians in reaction, Ezekwesili in a thread via her Twitter page said the allegation of spousal abuse leading to Osinachi’s death hit hard.

She lamented bitterly about the occurrence and demanded that the truth behind her death be revealed and Justice served to those responsible.

The former minister tweeted: “The death of Osinachi Nwachukwu of the epic Ekwueme worship song really hit hard. To read allegations of spousal abuse worsens the pain. I hope the truth is unearthed and justice given.”

Ezekwesili further urged everyone including churches to take seriously the issues of domestic violence against women, Naija News reports.

“I doubt that many in our society really pay enough attention to the troubling data that’s available on Gender-based Violence in Nigeria, Africa and the World at large. It is actually an Epidemic.

“Globally, a 2018 study shows nearly 1 in 3, or 30% of women are Victims,” Ezekwesili noted.
