Tension As Hoodlums Machete Six NURTW Members In Ondo

Unrest has been reported in Ondo State after hoodlums reportedly macheted at least six members of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.

It was gathered that the thugs suspected to be supporters of Jacob Adebo, popularly known as ‘Idajo,’ the new Chairman of the Vehicle Parks Management Committee, invaded major motor parks in Akure, the state capital and started inflicting injuries on members of the union.

The incident, Naija News learnt happened on Monday, April 4.

The chaos started not long after Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, inaugurated the State Motor Parks Management Committee on Monday through his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The Governor had appointed Idajo who happens to be the previous Chairman of NURTW in the State, to lead the 21-man committee, which also includes Evangelist Festus Obasoto as Vice Chairman and Bayode Gbenga as Secretary.

Shortly after the event, hoodlums reportedly came out in large numbers and went to various motor parks to attack NURTW members.

The development reportedly caused traffic congestion and disrupted the movement of vehicles on major roads as passengers had to flee for their lives.

Naija News learnt that the hoodlums were going about in buses carrying cutlasses, knives, and other dangerous weapons.

The six people reportedly injured are said to be receiving treatment at an Akure hospital.

However, when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Funmilayo Odunlami, said that the issue had not been reported.
