Unknown gunmen on Sunday killed two officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who were on a routine patrol in Anambra State.

Naija News understands the FRSC officials were attacked with sporadic gunshots on the Igbo-Uku-Uga route in Anambra state.

The gunmen were said to have attacked the team which was made up of an Officer, a driver, and two other staff around 2.45 pm.

According to the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem who confirmed the incident, two of the officials died immediately while one was critically injured and has been taken to the clinic while one person escaped into the bush.

“The team leader was rushed to the hospital after sustaining severe injuries from the attack”, Kazeem said.

Reacting to the attack, the Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi was quoted in a statement to have condemned the attack while condoling with the families of the deceased staff who lost their lives while on duty.

Oyeyemi also assured that the Corps is already working with the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant security agencies to ensure the arrest of the criminals and bring them to justice.

The attack on FRSC officials is coming barely a few days after unknown gunmen in the early hours of Thursday burnt the Secretariat of Nnewi South Local Government Area in Ukpor Anambra State.

The invading gunmen also killed one person said to be one of the security guards on duty at the secretariat during the attack.

The incident, Naija News gathered caused tension in the area as residents scampered to safety out of fear of getting embroiled in the attack.

The disturbing incident has been confirmed by the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, Ikenga Tochukwu who said operatives have been deployed to the scene.
