The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has debunked all reports of a rumoured interest in the 2023 presidency.

Emefiele in s series of Tweets from his account on Monday said his focus is to combat rising inflation in the country and support President Muhammadu Buhari to finish his tenure well.

He pleaded that he be allowed to focus on his job without any distraction.

Naija News reports there have been several reports about Emefiele’s interest in the 2023 presidency when some pressure groups have also taken it upon themselves to charge him to run for the nation’s number one political office.

But Emefiele laid all the rumours and agitations to rest on Monday when he finished his statement with “no distractions please.”

He wrote: “My focus at this time is a robust monetary policy and fighting inflation which is now a global problem; building a strong financial system in an increasingly uncertain global economy;

“Development finance and supporting farmers & manufacturers in our self sufficiency and import substitution drive; raising N15 trillion for InfraCo infrastructure financing;

“Building a world class International Financial Center in Lagos; as we support the @MBuhari Administration to finish strong.”

Meanwhile, the federal government on Monday, accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of attempting to cause trouble in Nigeria.

The government said the opposition party kidnapped the fortunes of the entire nation during its sixteen years in power but is now trying to rubbish the corrective efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari by spreading false information.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed made the allegation during a press briefing in Abuja where he said the All Progressives Congress (APC) is still cleaning up the mess of the PDP.
