The All Progressive Congress (APC) has disclosed the reason for adopting a unity list ahead of its National Convention slated for Saturday.

According to the ruling party, it adopted the unity list in order to avoid chaos during the much-anticipated event and to allow smooth running of the convention.

The Chairman, APC National Convention Media and Publicity Sub-Committee and Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, made this known at a news briefing in Abuja on Friday.

The governor stated that the APC is not wrong if it settles for consensus candidates, adding that all the aspirants will agree and sign off before the convention.

He said: “If you are talking about consensus, you must have a unity list because that is the whole essence of consensus.

“If you are having consensus, you have people, aspirants, stakeholders and constituency that have agreed.

“In that case, that name automatically would be adopted. That is the meaning of the unity list. That is how unity list would be put together.

We have mentioned over and over, as far as our party is concerned, we have all the three options in our constitution and the number one choice always in our party is consensus because it creates a rancour-free convention.

“The reason being that all stakeholders from the various zone will seat, agree and all aspirants will agree and sign off before you go into the convention. So our first choice is always consensus and we are still on that first choice.

“However, democracy demands, even the constitution demands that if that doesn’t work, we would go ahead and look at other options. But right now that remains our option — our number one.”
