Tension As NURTW Workers Kill Bus Driver In Imo

A commercial bus driver, identified as Uzoma Onyeagucha from Umunkweye, Irete, 45 and father of 7 children has been killed by an official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who was said to be on an illegal duty in Owerri.

According to Daily Sun, the unfortunate incident occurred on the 8th of March, around Arugo in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

An eye witness who narrated the incident disclosed that the NURTW official who was said to be on an illegal duty,  in the company of some of his members forcefully approached the father of 7 where he was parked at Asumpta Control Post bus stop to drop off some of his passengers, demanding why he parked there despite the union’s prohibition order of the parking space.

The bus driver, according to the source immediately tried to drive away when the officials numbering over 20 pounded on him and star started beating him.

The victim tried to run, but the men of NURTW caught up with him and continue to beat him until he fell to the ground, hitting his bare head on the tarred road.

He reportedly died at the hospital before he could be revived, the source said.
