Breaking: Court Takes Fresh Action On Jailing IGP Usman Alkali Baba For Contempt

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has expressed sadness over the death of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), Joseph Egbunike.

Naija News had earlier reported that Egbunike, who headed the Special Investigation Panel constituted to probe embattled police officer, Abba Kyari, slumped and died in his office in Abuja on Tuesday.

In a statement on Wednesday by the acting Force Public Relations Officer, Olumiyiwa Adejobi, IGP Baba said Egbunike died after a brief illness at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Tuesday night.

The police chief said the death of the senior police officer is a big loss to the country, the Nigeria Police Force and the security industry in the country.

Baba said Egbunike was a dedicated and seasoned police officer who served the nation in various capacities including as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Accounts and Budget.

He, however, condoled with the immediate family, relatives, and friends of the deceased DIG and prayed for the reposed of his soul.

The statement reads: “DIG Egbunike was a dedicated and seasoned police officer who served the nation in various capacities including as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Accounts and Budget. An officer with finesse and commitment to intellectual development and was instrumental to the achievements of the giant strides within the Police architecture.

“The Inspector-General of Police hereby condoles with the immediate family, relatives, and friends of the deceased DIG who passed away in active service of his fatherland and prays for the repose of his soul.”
