A counsel to Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, Yomi Aliyu on Tuesday noted that Noble Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka was not involved in the release of his client.

This is coming after it was reported that the leader of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Prof Banji Akintoye and Wole Soyinka were involved in the release of the activist.

Aliyu while speaking on release on Tuesday noted that Prof Wale Adediran, a member of the Ilana Omo Oodua was the one involved in the release of Igboho.

The Yoruba Nation agitator has been in detention in Cotonou, Benin Republic since July 19, 2021.

Igboho was arrested while trying to flee to Germany through the West African country after he was declared wanted in Nigeria by the Department of State Services.

Prof Akintoye and Adediran on Monday, however, secured the release of Igboho on health ground and he was also warned not to leave the Benin Republic.

Alliyu while speaking on the development said, “Prof Wale Adeniran was actively involved in Sunday Igboho’s release. Prof Wole Soyinka had nothing to do with the release of Chief Sunday Adeyemo, a.k.a Igboho.”

“We’ll ever commend the immense contributions of Prof Wale Adeniran for the laudable role he played in negotiating the conditional release of our client.”
