The operatives of the Nigeria Police Force engaged bandit terrorists in a gun duel on Tuesday, avoiding a dreadful attack on the Barewa community of Katsina State.
The assailants according to reports, stormed the community riding on motorcycles in large numbers.
They, however, met a strong repellant by the police operatives in the Batagarawa Local Government Area of the state, Naija News learnt.
Confirming the attack in a statement, the spokesman of Katsina Police Command, SP Isah Gambo, said the terrorists were seen in large numbers riding into the community heavily armed with AK-47 rifles.
According to him, the police were alerted and in response, a combined team of Police and military were mobilized to the area, where they engaged the hoodlums into a fierce gun duel and successfully repelled them.
Gambo revealed that the terrorists flee due to the operational strategy and gallantry displayed by the combined teams.
The Police mouthpiece explained further that five bandits’ operational motorcycles were recovered and burnt down by the team of security operatives, adding that another bandits’ motorcycle abandoned in Barawa forest was recovered by the Batagarawa Divisional Police Officer.
Gambo noted that many of the terrorists escaped the scene with gunshot wounds.
While reiterating further the commitment of the force in protecting citizens, the personnel enjoined members of the community to report to the nearest security formation any person found with suspicious injury.
On his part, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Idrisu Dauda Dabban, commended and appreciates the efforts of the personnel in repelling the terrorists.
He called on members of the public to continue to cooperate with security agencies in the ongoing onslaught against terrorism in the state.
